During the inaugural AI Skilling Day hosted by Microsoft South Africa on June 25, Tiara Pathon, the AI Skills Director for Microsoft, underscored the company’s commitment to training one million South Africans by the year 2026. Diverse Programs and Partnerships To Enhance Skills

The initiative will roll out a variety of educational resources, including online courses and certification programs, as well as establishing AI innovation hubs across the continent. Furthermore, the newly launched AI Skills Navigator platform will provide customized learning pathways, particularly in areas such as cybersecurity, software development, UI/UX design, cloud computing, and, notably, Microsoft Azure. To further support this initiative, Microsoft has partnered with Youth Employment Services (YES) with the aim of delivering 50,000 certifications to young South Africans. They are also pledging assistance to 200 SMEs and over 2,000 individuals, backed by a commitment of R1.3 billion towards job creation initiatives.
