CSOs in Balaka Collaborate for Fair and Credible Elections
Civil society organizations in Balaka have established a district chapter of the CSEIF to ensure that the upcoming general elections are free, fair, and credible. Sammy Aaron, the Eastern Region Chairperson, emphasized the goal of promoting transparency and safeguarding voters’ rights. Misheck Kafandikhale has been elected chairperson, pledging to work for a violence-free electoral process.
In an effort to facilitate free, fair, and credible upcoming general elections, civil society organizations in Balaka have established the district chapter of the Civil Society Elections Integrity Forum (CSEIF). This initiative has been formalized through the election of members to the committee, as announced by CSEIF – Eastern Region Chairperson, Sammy Aaron.
The principal aim of the committee is to advance transparency, accountability, and integrity within the electoral process. Aaron stated that the committee intends to empower various stakeholders to ensure that the elections are conducted in a manner that upholds these values. “We aim to empower various stakeholders so that they have the muscle to ensure that forthcoming elections are free, fair and credible,” shared Aaron.
Furthermore, Aaron emphasized the importance of non-partisanship among elected members and highlighted the need for collaboration among diverse stakeholders, which includes the media, traditional, and faith leaders, as vital for encouraging a peaceful electoral environment.
In a notable development, Misheck Kafandikhale has been appointed chairperson of the CSEIF-Balaka chapter. During his acceptance speech, Kafandikhale committed to ensuring that the elections scheduled for September 16 would be characterized by fairness and devoid of violence.
The formation of the CSEIF in Balaka signifies a collective commitment among civil society organizations to promote integrity in the electoral process. By empowering stakeholders and fostering collaboration, the committee aims to safeguard voters’ rights and ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted in a peaceful and fair manner.
