Strengthening Legislative Ties: Chinese Embassy Engages with Zimbabwean Parliament

On March 12, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, Cheng Yan, met with Webster Shamu, Chairperson of the Zimbabwean Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee. The discussion focused on enhancing exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies of both nations. Notably, Counsellor Zhang Yi attended the meeting as well.

Cheng Yan provided Webster Shamu with insights into recent sessions of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, elaborating on the practice of whole-process people’s democracy in China. He also emphasized the significance of the year 2025, which will mark the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Zimbabwe, and expressed hopes for increased cooperation.

In response, Webster Shamu acknowledged the strong mutual trust and friendship that exist between Zimbabwe and China. He affirmed that the Zimbabwean Parliament is committed to maintaining close ties with the NPC and actively promoting cooperation across various sectors, thus enhancing the bilateral relationship and fostering friendly exchanges between the two countries.
