Reports indicate that most of the 15 victims had suffered gunshot wounds to the head, with some evidence suggesting they were alive when thrown into the well, according to Dr. Hisham Zain al-Abdin, the director of forensic medicine in Khartoum state.

Additional bodies have been located along roadsides and concealed in the district’s basements, with some victims found bound. “A lot of things happened here, and horrific scenes,” stated Dr. Zain al-Abdin. The discovery aligns with wider reports of killings as government forces reclaim territory from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who have been at odds with the military authorities since their split in April 2023.

Authorities continue to uncover significant evidence of abuses in previously RSF-controlled areas, but the RSF has not commented on these claims. Historically, the RSF has denied widespread human rights violations but maintains that any guilty individuals would face justice. Resident Hussein al-Faki recounted the locals’ previous attempts to bury the victims, thwarted by threats from armed RSF personnel. “If you got closer, they would shoot you. They scared us, so we ran away and left them,” he shared, indicating the pervasive climate of fear.
