Cabinet Secretaries Joho and Duale Advocate for Unity Among Muslims

Cabinet Secretaries Joho and Duale call for unity among Muslims to support the government and encourage ID registration. Joho highlights recent ID vetting changes, urging voter registration. Both leaders emphasize the importance of collective political action and commitment to protecting community interests in future elections.

Cabinet Secretaries Hassan Ali Joho and Aden Duale are emphasizing the necessity for unity within the Muslim community to support the current government and encourage the acquisition of national Identity Cards (IDs). During the Third Annual Graduation Ceremony of the Ibn Abbas Islamic Centre in Mombasa, CS Joho stressed that active participation in national politics is essential for the Muslim community’s representation.

CS Joho highlighted the recent removal of additional vetting procedures for obtaining national IDs, viewing it as a progressive step. He encouraged the community to register as voters in large numbers to ensure their voices are heard in future elections. “When they count our votes in 2027, they will be perplexed,” Joho remarked, alluding to a potential rise in the Muslim population’s influence in the upcoming 2032 General Election.

Emphasizing the importance of unity, CS Joho condemned leaders opposing the easing of ID vetting, branding their actions as mere politics. “We must be counted,” he asserted, referring to the need for collective participation. In parallel, CS Duale assured the Muslim community of their commitment to preventing policies that could harm their interests during their terms in government.

Duale pointed out that Muslim and pastoralist communities play a significant role across 20 counties and committed to mobilizing these groups to cast their votes as a bloc to secure President Ruto’s re-election. Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir noted that the movement towards Muslim unity is causing concern among certain groups and announced initiatives to assist individuals without IDs or birth certificates through local administrators. “We will advance this agenda not by words but by actions,” he asserted.

Garissa Town MP Mohamed Dekow pledged to motivate Northeastern residents to register for the upcoming 2027 elections. Meanwhile, Bura MP Yakub Adow called on Joho and Duale for political guidance for the Muslim community. He remarked on the unprecedented support for Muslim rights provided by President William Ruto’s administration. Nominated MP Abdisirat Ali suggested that opposition to the President arises from his commitment to fairness and the equitable distribution of resources across Kenya.

In summary, Cabinet Secretaries Hassan Ali Joho and Aden Duale are advocating for unity among the Muslim community to strengthen their political influence and ensure participation in government processes. They highlight the significance of registering for national IDs and mobilizing votes for upcoming elections, with assurances of safeguarding the community’s interests. With the support of local leadership, the Muslim community aims to enhance its representation in the political landscape of Kenya.
