Approximately 2,056 athletes are expected to participate in the MTN Champs Season 3, a prominent track and field event commencing in Benin today. Bambo Akani, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Making of Champions (MOC), made this announcement during a press conference ahead of the three-day competition. The MOC, partnering with MTN for this event, underscored the championships’ significance in discovering and nurturing young athletic talents.

Akani highlighted that the inaugural Season of MTN Champs, also held in Benin, successfully identified raw talent, with several athletes now benefiting from full athletic scholarships in the United States. He conveyed optimism that many emerging talents would achieve significant success, enhancing Nigeria’s reputation on both local and international platforms.

Osaze Ebueku, MTN’s Senior Manager of Sponsorship and Go-To-Market (GTM), echoed the sentiment by reaffirming the company’s commitment to discovering and developing young athletes, comparing their potential to that of unpolished diamonds which can evolve into world champions. He expressed enthusiasm about returning to Benin to scout for more exceptional proficiency.

Amadin Enabulele, Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, emphasized the administration’s focus on grassroots sports development. He mentioned that Governor Monday Okpebholo had authorized the use of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and arranged additional logistics to ensure a successful and impactful event in Edo State.

The upcoming MTN Champs Season 3 in Benin is set to witness the participation of 2,056 athletes, reiterating the significance of such championships in fostering athletic talent. The collaboration between MOC and MTN aims to continue discovering and nurturing promising athletes who are poised to make notable contributions to athletics both locally and worldwide. The support from the Edo State government further emphasizes the commitment to grassroots sports development, ensuring a bright future for emerging talents.
