Detained for nearly eight hours, Othman, alongside prominent figures such as Tanzania’s Ambassador to Zambia, faced an inexplicable hold by Angolan authorities while en route to the Africa Democracy Forum, a conference dedicated to governance and democracy across Africa.

This incident involved significant figures, including former leaders from Botswana, Colombia, and Lesotho, along with several political leaders from various countries, all of whom were subjected to detention without reason. Othman criticized this conduct, asserting that it undermines the core values of the African Union, especially as Angola’s President currently chairs the AU.
