The United Nations Secretary-General has praised the signing of the State Border Treaty between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, marking a significant milestone after years of negotiation. The signing occurred between Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. In recent years, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have faced escalating border tensions, including violent confrontations. A serious spike in violence occurred in 2022, which led to a six-day conflict that displaced numerous individuals.
