The notification stated, “Kindly take notice that our stay in Kenya Kwanza Coalition is no longer tenable due to the prevailing political developments.” Additionally, the party invoked the Termination Clause (8) outlined in their coalition agreement, making provisions for the exit to be effective within the specified 30-day period. The correspondence was also shared with the Registrar of Political Parties and the Secretary Generals of affiliated parties.

Muturi’s decision follows his increased criticisms of the government, especially highlighted by the recent abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, which he described as a traumatic experience. The Cabinet Secretary has actively spoken against cases of enforced disappearances in Kenya, emphasizing the personal impact of his son’s kidnapping in June 2024. “I have personally suffered as my son was abducted, leaving my family in turmoil,” he lamented.

In response to Muturi’s public outcry regarding his son’s situation, some members of the ruling coalition have accused him of politicizing the issue. Senator Wahome Wamatinga claimed that Muturi’s criticisms were politically motivated, suggesting they were tied to his aspirations for the upcoming 2027 elections. Other officials, including UDA MP Reuben Kiborek, deem Muturi’s public remarks inappropriate, advising that such grievances should be handled internally within the government.

Despite the backlash, Muturi has remained resolute, declaring, “I do not fear being sacked. I trust in God,” indicating that he has already prepared for the possibility of resignation from his post.
