Fr Álvaro Pacheco Carve Appointed Provincial of Argentina-Uruguay Province
Fr. Álvaro Pacheco Carve has been appointed as the Provincial of the Argentina-Uruguay Province by Father General Arturo Sosa. Reverend Álvaro Pacheco Carve has been appointed as the new Provincial of the Argentina-Uruguay Province by Father General Arturo Sosa. Born on October 7, 1965, in Montevideo, Fr. Pacheco Carve possesses an impressive academic background in law and theology. He commenced his journey with the Society of Jesus entering the Jesuit Novitiate in Córdoba in 2001. His studies include philosophy at the Faculty of Theology of Uruguay and theology at the prestigious Centre Sèvres in Paris. He further enhanced his educational qualifications by obtaining a Master’s and Doctorate in Canon Law and Philosophy of Law from Université Paris II, Institut Catholique de Paris, and Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA). Fr. Pacheco Carve was ordained as a priest by Bishop Nicolás Cotugno, SDB, in 2010, at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Montevideo. His diverse experience includes significant positions such as Director of the Department of Philosophy, Dean of Law, and Vice-Rector for University Environment at the Catholic University of Uruguay from 2011 until 2021. He has also served as the Parish Administrator of Nuestra Señora de Fátima in Montevideo from 2014 to 2018 and has been a Judge at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Montevideo since 2012. Presently, he holds the role of Rector at the Seminary College in Montevideo and serves as the Superior of its community.
