Uganda Deploys Special Forces to Juba Amidst Kiir-Machar Tensions

Uganda has dispatched special forces to Juba to bolster the government of South Sudanese President Salva Kiir amidst rising tensions with First Vice President Riek Machar. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, confirmed that Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) commandos have arrived to lead an operation named Mlinzi wa Kimya, aimed at supporting the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF).

The deployment of Ugandan forces signifies escalating tensions between President Kiir and Vice President Machar, highlighting concerns regarding the stability of the fragile peace agreement established in 2018.
