Public Service Commission Issues Notice on Clerical Officers’ Exam Results

The Public Service Commission has notified 205 clerical officers who failed their proficiency examination in September 2024 that they must resit certain subjects. Failures were particularly high in Human Resource Services. Conversely, 673 candidates successfully passed the examination. Additionally, one candidate’s results were canceled due to exam irregularities.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Kenya has announced that 205 clerical officers who participated in the proficiency examination in September 2024 did not pass. In the Kenya Gazette dated March 7, the PSC specified the subjects each failed candidate must retake to improve their proficiency. The commission acknowledged: “The following two hundred and five (205) candidates did not pass the Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers held from September 23 to 26, 2024. They are expected to resit the subject(s) indicated against their names.”

The candidates exhibited various failures, but Human Resource Services emerged as the most significant elective subject with the highest number of failures across multiple ministries. Other subjects that resulted in failures included communication skills, supply services, records management, and accounts. The culprits for these failures spanned different ministries, with a majority from the Interior and National Administration Ministry, alongside others from Defence, Education, and the National Treasury.

Moreover, candidates from county governments such as Nakuru, Taita Taveta, and Turkana were also among those who did not succeed in the examination. Additionally, one candidate from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration had his results annulled due to examination irregularities. The PSC declared this, stating, “The following one (1) candidate was involved in an examination irregularity and his results have been canceled.”

Conversely, the examination yielded positive results for many, as 673 clerical officers successfully passed the proficiency examination. The PSC has made it known in the same notice: “It is notified for general information that the following Six Hundred and Seventy Three (673) Candidates passed the Proficiency Examination For Clerical Officers’ Held from 23rd to 26th September 2024. The Elective Subject is indicated against their name.”

In summary, the Public Service Commission has mandated 205 clerical officers to retake subjects they failed in the proficiency examination. While these failures predominantly occurred in Human Resource Services and several other subjects, it is noteworthy that 673 candidates succeeded in the examination, affirming the overall competency of a significant number of clerical officers across government ministries.
