Iran and Norway Discuss Regional Peace and Nuclear Policy Amid Tensions

President Pezeshkian spoke with Norway’s Prime Minister regarding Iran’s commitment to peace, its nuclear policy, and regional tensions, particularly criticizing Israel’s actions. He affirmed ongoing cooperation with the IAEA and emphasized Iran’s resolve to protect its security. Prime Minister Stoere expressed Norway’s willingness to support peaceful resolutions and strengthen ties with Iran.

In a recent telephone conversation, Iranian President Pezeshkian and Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere addressed several bilateral and multilateral issues. President Pezeshkian reaffirmed that Iran has never aimed to develop nuclear weapons, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to reducing tensions and promoting unity in the region. He stated, “However, we will definitely counter any threat against our country’s security and interests with strength and power.”

President Pezeshkian highlighted Iran’s ongoing cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) concerning the verification of its nuclear activities. He acknowledged the positive relations between Tehran and Oslo, noting the potential for collaboration on both regional and international matters, while commending Norway’s role in advancing peace initiatives.

Discussing the current sensitive global and regional situation, Pezeshkian asserted Iran’s dedication to preserving peace, stability, and security, thereby thwarting any potential conflict. He criticized the actions of what he termed the “Zionist regime,” which, he claimed, is inciting war and committing atrocities against the Palestinian people. He contended that this regime attempts to misrepresent Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities as a security threat, stating, “is attempting to portray the peaceful nuclear activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a factor of insecurity through fabrication of lies.”

In response, Prime Minister Stoere expressed Norway’s support for a peaceful resolution to regional issues and affirmed his country’s readiness to contribute to this cause. He also reiterated the shared values between Norway and Iran, expressing a desire to strengthen amicable relations going forward.

The conversation between President Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Stoere underscored the commitment of both nations to peace and cooperation. While Iran maintains that it does not seek nuclear weapons, it will strongly defend its sovereignty against perceived threats. Additionally, the criticism of Israeli actions and the acknowledgment of Norway’s peace efforts highlight the complexities of regional dynamics.
