Supreme Judicial Council Celebrates International Day of Women Judges in Geneva
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) celebrated the fourth International Day of Women Judges in Geneva, collaborating with the Permanent Delegation of Qatar. The event featured prominent judges and included participation from various organizations. Established during the 75th UN General Assembly, this day emphasizes Qatar’s leadership in promoting gender equality within the judiciary.
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) recently commemorated the fourth International Day of Women Judges in Geneva, in partnership with the Permanent Delegation of Qatar to the United Nations Human Rights Council. This event coincided with the 58th session of the Human Rights Council and showcased Qatar’s commitment to fostering gender equality within the judiciary.
The SJC delegation was comprised of distinguished members, including Senior Judge at the Court of Appeal, Dr. Hessa Al Sulaiti, First Deputy President of the Court of First Instance, Fatima Al Mal, and Judge Aisha Al Emadi. They were joined by several directors and heads of specialized administrative units within the Council.
Various national and international organizations contributed to the event’s success. Notable participants included the National Human Rights Committee, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the International Association of Women Judges based in Washington, DC.
The International Day of Women Judges was established during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, as a result of an initiative led by the State of Qatar. This significant acknowledgment highlights Qatar’s pivotal role in advocating for gender equality in the judicial sector, which aligns with both sustainable development goals and the aspirations of Qatar National Vision 2030.
The International Day of Women Judges, celebrated in Geneva, signifies a critical step towards enhancing gender equality within the judicial system.
