Senator Shehu Sani Endorses Uba Sani’s Re-election and Critiques Past Governance
Senator Shehu Sani endorses Governor Uba Sani’s re-election for 2027, emphasizing improvements since the latter’s tenure began. Sani critiques past governance, underscores the importance of responsible power use, and calls for public measures aiding citizens’ hardships. He views current leadership positively, urging support for President Tinubu’s reforms and acknowledging progress in security and governance.
Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker and civil rights advocate, has expressed his desire to support the re-election of Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna in the upcoming 2027 elections. Recently, he transitioned from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, discussing his position in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.
Sani remarked, “By virtue of the political equation in Kaduna State, if I happen to secure a ticket to return to the Senate in 2027, I will be glad. But if I do not, I will still be at peace knowing that we have ensured Uba’s re-election as governor.” He further expressed satisfaction with the political advancements in Kaduna, acknowledging a return to the APC as a move to rid the state of prior political turmoil.
He emphasized the significance of using political power responsibly. Sani stated, “If God has blessed you with power, use it to positively impact the masses. But if you become intoxicated with power—abusing it, arresting people, and unleashing terror—a day will come when you will be out of power.” Critiquing previous governance from 2015 to 2023, he noted a lack of effective leadership which led to heightened divisions and challenges within the state.
Highlighting positive changes, Sani mentioned gradual improvements under Uba Sani’s leadership. He observed, “Since Uba Sani took over as governor, things have improved significantly. We rarely hear of mass abductions in Kaduna anymore. People now travel freely between Kaduna and Abuja.” He credited security improvements to the efforts of Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, and President Bola Tinubu.
Assessing the overall security situation in Northern Nigeria, Sani remarked on its enhancements compared to President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. He asserted that current measures are significantly more effective, saying, “I must say that Tinubu’s security measures are 1,000 times better than those of former President Muhammadu Buhari.”
Sani criticized former President Buhari for failing to complete major developmental projects during his term, asking why some are now reproaching President Tinubu after remaining silent during the previous administration. He noted, “Many of the country’s current challenges could have been avoided if the right actions had been taken by the last administration.”
Additionally, Sani urged the current administration to consider the people’s struggles, advocating for relief measures to alleviate burdens like school fees and housing costs. He stated, “Nigerians are suffering; they are facing extreme hardship. There should be relief measures to ease their burdens.”
Despite current challenges, Sani remains hopeful for Nigeria’s future, indicating a supportive stance toward President Tinubu’s leadership. He noted, “This is the first time we have a president openly declaring that he is not controlled by any cabal. We should appreciate that and work with Tinubu.”
Senator Shehu Sani’s commitment to supporting the re-election of Governor Uba Sani in 2027 underscores his political vision for Kaduna and Nigeria. His critique of past governance highlights the importance of responsible leadership. With notable improvements in security and administration under the present government, Sani advocates for public welfare and effective reform measures that address the challenges faced by Nigerians. His reflections present a blueprint for future governance focused on accountability and improvement.
