On March 8, 2025, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed inaugurated SkyWin Aeronautics Industries in Addis Ababa, marking a significant advancement in Ethiopia’s technological capabilities. The newly established company specializes in manufacturing unmanned aerial vehicles designed for both military and civilian applications. This initiative reflects Ethiopia’s commitment to achieving self-reliance in the security sector and enhancing its domestic production capacity.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Abiy emphasized that the successful development of locally manufactured drones was previously unimaginable. He highlighted the diverse capabilities of these vehicles, crafted by skilled young Ethiopian professionals, as a noteworthy achievement for the nation. Through deterrence, we seek to secure peace and stability in the face of belligerent actors,” he stated, underscoring the aim of these initiatives to foster national security.
