Maysan: Recent Torrents Enhance Tigris River Water Levels

The Ministry of Water Resources announced a new wave of torrents feeding into the Tigris River from Iran, with significant rainfall recorded in border areas. The flow is mainly from several valleys and is expected to increase. Monitoring efforts are in place to utilize this water optimally.

The Ministry of Water Resources has reported the arrival of a fresh wave of torrents flowing into the Tigris River from Iran. Engineer Saadi Mahdi Saleh, who leads the Water Resources Division in Ali al-Gharbi, stated that this influx is due to significant rainfall in the border regions over the past two days.

Water is currently being channeled from multiple valleys, including Wadi al-Jifta, Wadi Talil, Wadi al-Za’faran, and Wadi Jabab, towards the northern Shamshir outlet. The estimated flow rate reaching the Tigris River is over 25 cubic meters per second, with forecasts suggesting an increase in flow shortly.

Additionally, there are torrents arriving through Al-Jafaj in Wasit Governorate; however, these are smaller in scale, estimated at 5 to 6 cubic meters per second via Wadi Al-Jalbab. Conversely, the Shamshir smuggler in Ali Al-Gharbi is experiencing promising flows of 25 cubic meters per second, with projections for ongoing increases. The authorities are monitoring the situation to ensure the efficient use of this water for enhanced water reserves.

The recent influx of torrents from Iran represents a significant boost to the water flow in the Tigris River. With an estimated flow rate exceeding 25 cubic meters per second, the authorities are poised to manage and utilize this resource effectively.
