The Aoun Qatar rescue team recently assisted Raghdan Salem Zodeh, a Syrian expatriate, after his SUV became stuck in the sand near a beach in Qatar. Volunteers from the team freed him in just ten minutes, emphasizing their dedication to helping stranded motorists. Zodeh noted, “The guys here are all chivalrous; they are all helpful.”

Each weekend during the cooler months, hundreds travel into the desert for recreation, resulting in a surge of rescue calls for the Aoun Qatar team, which operates under government supervision. Mohammed Essa Yousif, a team leader, highlighted that they receive between 100 to 200 calls a week, often dealing with challenging rescues involving submerged vehicles or mud.

The team comprises 35 members, most of whom are trained in first aid and equipped with towing kits, spare tires, medical supplies, and water. Rescues can involve collaboration with government helicopters and divers, particularly for complicated situations. Tareq Ali Saleh, another team leader, remarked on the urgency of certain missions, recalling a recent incident with a vehicle that was nearly entirely under the water.

The night began with another routine call, aiding Hassan Rageb, who had been stuck for approximately 40 minutes while towing a caravan. He expressed his anxiety about the situation as it was his first experience handling such a challenge. Newer team member Saad Abdulrehman Ansari expressed pride in providing assistance to those in distress within the rugged desert environments.
