A South Sudanese team departed from Juba for Thailand on Friday afternoon to compete in the World Muay Thai Championship, which will take place from March 4 to March 18. Participating countries include Algeria, Russia, the Netherlands, Canada, Italy, France, Iran, Brazil, Latvia, the Philippines, Spain, Thailand, Myanmar, India, and China. South Sudan’s representatives feature Abednego Thon (Wizzy), Sky Okony, and James Majok Gau.

Puro Okello Oboo, the President of the South Sudan Kickboxing Federation (SSKF), conveyed the athletes’ readiness to secure a victory. He stated, “We are traveling to Thailand to represent South Sudan in the ongoing championship. The fighters are prepared and will bring good results.”

Wizzy expressed his team’s enthusiasm and gratitude for representing their country. “We are happy to represent South Sudan. We are hopeful that we will bring home a trophy as a sign of unity,” he remarked. Okony underscored the importance of Muay Thai in fostering social interaction, signifying their commitment to making their nation proud.
