Call for Justice Following the Tragic Death of Nigerian Footballer Abubakar Lawal

In a video shared by Vipers SC, Mansour emphasized the need for justice: “I am also urging the Nigerian government and the Ugandan government to please work with the Nigerian embassy to ensure justice prevails.” He expressed gratitude toward the Nigerian government, Sokoto State, and the various individuals who helped facilitate his brother’s return for burial.

The Ugandan authorities are currently conducting an inquiry into Abubakar’s death, and the Nigerian government is also involved, with representatives from the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) promising thorough intervention. The police report stated that Lawal had arrived at the shopping mall to meet a Tanzanian friend and tragically fell shortly after.

Ambassador Shama Shanga from the Nigerian Embassy in Uganda has made efforts to engage with local authorities regarding the investigation. NiDCOM Chairman Dabiri-Erewa stressed the importance of transparency and vigilance: “This is so sad. NiDCOM will ensure and demand a thorough and transparent investigation,” she remarked. Abubakar Lawal, aged 29, had a history of playing for various clubs before his transfer to Vipers in Uganda.
