Kuwait Forms Strategic Partnership with Microsoft to Propel AI Development

Kuwait’s CAIT and CITRA have signed a partnership with Microsoft to enhance AI capabilities and digital transformation in line with Kuwait Vision 2035. This initiative includes launching several AI-focused centers and providing access to Microsoft 365 Copilot for civil servants. The collaboration aims to strengthen the digital infrastructure and boost innovation, contributing to economic diversification in Kuwait.

Kuwait’s Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) and the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) have formalized a strategic partnership with Microsoft Corporation to advance the nation’s digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives. This collaboration aims to position Kuwait as a regional AI hub aligned with the Kuwait Vision 2035 framework, as stated by Minister of State for Communications Affairs Omar Saud Abdul-Aziz Al-Omar during a press conference after the signing ceremony held on Wednesday.

Minister Al-Omar emphasized the significance of this agreement, noting it reflects the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and the meticulous supervision of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The partnership is seen as a pivotal step towards enhancing the application of AI in promoting economic diversification, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the nation.

The strategic agreement outlines plans to establish an AI data center, an integrated AI system, a center focused on boosting the digital economy, and a center for excellence in cloud auditing. Al-Omar stated that governmental employees will gain access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, making Kuwait a pioneer in the region in utilizing these technologies that enhance productivity and state services.

Al-Omar also highlighted that the establishment of cloud auditing centers, coupled with improved digital infrastructure and rapid access to Microsoft services, are essential in attracting international investors and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in Kuwait.

Samer Abu-Ltaif, Microsoft’s corporate vice-president for the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMA) region, asserted that this partnership will enhance Kuwait’s digital infrastructure and contribute to the nation’s economic stability and growth. He reiterated Microsoft’s commitment to enhancing the cloud infrastructure and supporting Kuwaiti institutions in fostering innovation and investment alongside the government’s Cybersphere initiative, which aims to improve cybersecurity measures against potential cyber threats.
