EAM Jaishankar Discusses Kashmir Conflict and India’s Foreign Relations

In response to inquiries regarding actions taken by India to address the Kashmir dilemma, Jaishankar emphasized the significance of the Article 370 abrogation as the first measure. He further elaborated that fostering economic growth and ensuring social justice in the region constitutes the second step, while conducting elections in Kashmir with high voter participation represents the third essential step toward comprehensive resolution.

Jaishankar expressed optimism for a future when the part of Kashmir under illegal Pakistani occupation will be returned to India, stating that the issue will be entirely resolved upon this return. He referenced communication between India and Pakistan that occurred in October of the previous year, marking the first direct talks since 2015.

Amid his discussions, Jaishankar also pointed out the discussions held with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, which included possibilities of rekindling cricketing relations between the two nations. Furthermore, he shared insights on India’s relations with China, labeling it as a “unique relationship” and mentioning progress since October 2024, particularly regarding the Mount Kailash pilgrimage.

In addition to these matters, Jaishankar addressed the tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, informing that Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is engaged in talks in Washington concerning future trade agreements between India and the United States. This dialogue follows a recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump, which emphasized the mutual desire for a bilateral trade agreement.
