In December 2024, the flow monitoring report for Zimbabwe documented a total of 49,220 movements and included interviews with 1,102 migrants at 22 designated Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs). Among the interviewed individuals, 52% were female and 48% male, with 89% identifying as Zimbabwean nationals and 6% as Zambians. Notably, 61% of the Zambian nationals surveyed indicated they were traveling to Zimbabwe primarily for commercial activities, chiefly to sell clothing.

A significant increase of 67% in total movements was observed compared to the previous month, largely attributed to the festive season in December. Inflows represented 74% of the recorded movements, while outflows comprised 26%. The major sending districts included Beitbridge (62%), Harare (14%), and Chiredzi (6%), whereas Harare (31%), Bulawayo (24%), and Beitbridge (12%) were the leading receiving districts. Matabeleland South province emerged with the highest outflows (65%), while Harare province saw the most inflows (32%). Migrants from Matabeleland South generally traveled to Limpopo (62%), Eastern Cape (18%), and Gauteng (17%) in South Africa.

During this period, the South Africa-Zimbabwe corridor experienced the most significant movements, with 46,204 recorded, followed by the Zambia-Zimbabwe corridor with 3,016 movements. In the South Africa-Zimbabwe corridor, 54% of the movements were classified as short-term and 15% as long-term economic, while in the Zambia-Zimbabwe corridor, 59% were short-term and 25% long-term economic movements. The Zimbabwe Department of Immigration Control documented 322,931 entries and 185,814 exits at the Beitbridge border post, along with 19,886 entries and 4,254 exits at the Chirundu border post.
