IGAD Urges Restraint and Dialogue in Response to Nasir County Tensions

On March 5, 2025, H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), expressed serious concern regarding the rising tensions and armed clashes in Nasir County, South Sudan. The ongoing conflicts threaten to undermine the hard-earned achievements of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and jeopardize the peace process in the country.
In light of the situation, H.E. Dr. Workneh appealed for all parties to exercise restraint and reaffirm their commitments to the R-ARCSS. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and reconciliation as the only viable route to achieving long-term peace.
