Volkswagen has recently introduced the Tera, an entry-level compact SUV aimed at the Brazilian market. This new model may serve as the VW-branded counterpart to Skoda’s upcoming Kylaq in India. Built on the MQB A0 platform, the Tera showcases an appealing design that features a slim radiator grille prominently displaying the VW logo and a thick chrome strip across the front.
The Tera is characterized by its sharp design elements, including swept-back headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. The oversized central air intake on the front bumper, alongside angular side vents and lower cladding, highlights its sporty visage. The SUV’s sides are equipped with cladding on the wheel arches and door sills, complemented by a tapering roof structure, robust C-pillar, and roof-mounted spoiler, all of which contribute to its muscular appearance.
The rear of the vehicle exhibits striking features, including bold cladding on the bumper and a skid plate. Distinctive clear lens LED taillights are artfully connected by a sleek black plastic trim, enhancing the vehicle’s contemporary aesthetic. Inside, the Tera reveals a cabin design reminiscent of the Kylaq, boasting a layered dashboard and a free-standing infotainment screen, with centre AC vents situated beneath it.
In terms of performance, specific mechanical details remain undisclosed. However, a 1.0-liter TSI turbocharged petrol engine is anticipated, with options for both manual and automatic transmissions. Additionally, a flex-fuel variant is under consideration, and Volkswagen has confirmed that the Tera will be equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features. Although the exact dimensions are yet to be announced, the Tera is expected to measure around 4 meters in length.
In summary, the Volkswagen Tera represents a significant addition to the compact SUV segment in Brazil, showcasing modern design elements and advanced features. With its anticipated performance specifications and potential for flexibility, the Tera could also serve as an important introduction to the Indian market alongside its Skoda counterpart.
