NPP Minority Criticizes President Mahama Over Power Crisis Claims
The NPP Minority Caucus has rejected President Mahama’s claims of resolving Ghana’s power crisis, citing persistent outages. Dr. Amin Adam criticized the President’s remarks during a parliamentary address and urged the government to provide a load-shedding timetable to help individuals and businesses cope with continuing disruptions.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament has publicly criticized President John Dramani Mahama for his assertion that his administration had effectively resolved Ghana’s longstanding power crisis, known as “dumsor,” by 2016. Former Minister of Finance Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam challenged the President to provide the public with a load-shedding timetable, citing continued intermittent power outages that disrupt daily life for many Ghanaians.
Dr. Amin Adam remarked, “Mr. President, you did not fix ‘dumsor’ as you claimed in your address. Your record on ‘dumsor’ is abysmal, unlike your predecessor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who kept the lights on.” He further highlighted how the recurrence of power shortages during President Mahama’s current term reignites fears of potential distress for citizens and businesses affected by the power crisis.
During the NPP Minority Caucus’s “True State of the Nation Address” at Parliament House in Accra, the Minority underscored that the resurgence of power outages significantly impacts small businesses dependent onconsistent electricity supply. Dr. Amin Adam emphasized, “Many people and businesses have already felt the pinch and the pain of living with the current ‘dumsor.’ We have also seen the return of electric generating sets in shops, clinics, and at social events.”
To minimize the adverse effects of these inconsistent power supplies, the Minority urged the government to issue a load-shedding timetable. Dr. Amin Adam stated, “Mr. President, this is the true state of our nation. To mitigate the impact of these erratic power supplies, we, the Mighty Minority, call on the government to publish a load-shedding timetable to help people and businesses plan effectively and offset some of the losses the economy is currently suffering from.”
In summary, the NPP Minority Caucus has strongly rebuffed President Mahama’s claims regarding the resolution of Ghana’s power crisis, citing ongoing outages affecting daily life and businesses. They have urged the government to publish a load-shedding timetable to assist citizens in managing the impact of these power interruptions. This situation has reignited concerns over the stability of electricity supply since the return of President Mahama’s administration.
