Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu Visits Banadir Hospital in Mogadishu
Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Wang Yu, visited the Banadir Hospital in Mogadishu to assess its operations and express China’s commitment to healthcare cooperation with Somalia. The hospital, a symbol of friendship built in the 1970s, plays a crucial role in the community. Both sides expressed aspirations for enhanced collaboration on public health to benefit the Somali people.
On 26th February, His Excellency Wang Yu, the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, visited Banadir Hospital in Mogadishu. This hospital, established in the 1970s as part of a Chinese aid project, exemplifies the longstanding friendship between China and Somalia. During the visit, Ambassador Wang, accompanied by Dr. Mohamed Hassan Mohamed Bulale, Deputy Minister of Health and Human Services, and Dr. Fartun Sharif Mohamed, the Director of Banadir Hospital, received updates regarding the hospital’s current operations and facilities.
The delegation toured various hospital departments, including maternal and infant wards, as well as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Ambassador Wang engaged warmly with both patients and healthcare professionals, emphasizing the hospital’s vital role in fostering Sino-Somali relations. He articulated China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation in healthcare and public health, in accordance with the outcomes of the recent Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Dr. Fartun Sharif Mohamed and her colleagues expressed their gratitude toward Ambassador Wang for his visit. They praised the benevolence of their Chinese counterparts in providing support to the Somali populace. Additionally, they voiced their hopes for continued collaboration and communication to further enhance the hospital’s functions in the upcoming year.
