China has reiterated its commitment to climate cooperation and criticized US trade tariffs, particularly concerning the fentanyl issue. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation while opposing aggressive tariff measures. He also expressed China’s role in addressing the Ukraine crisis and reaffirmed the country’s stance on Taiwan, defending its sovereignty.
China has reaffirmed its dedication to international climate cooperation while expressively criticizing the trade policies of the United States. During a press briefing on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized China’s pivotal role in recently hosting the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) plenary session. He mentioned that under China’s guidance, this session resulted in the adoption of the IPCC’s seventh assessment report, which sets crucial directions for climate change scientific assessment and fosters collaboration within the global scientific community.
Furthermore, Lin asserted that China is committed to establishing a fair and cooperative global climate governance system, pledging support to developing nations in enhancing their capacities and technologies to address climate change. Concerning trade relations, he condemned the US threats to impose new tariffs on Chinese exports, citing the fentanyl issue as a pretext for these actions. Lin firmly opposed this approach, asserting that China will take necessary measures to protect its legitimate interests.
He underscored the futility of trade and tariff wars, affirming China’s preference for resolving concerns through equitable dialogue and consultation. In relation to the war in Ukraine, Lin expressed China’s intention to contribute constructively toward a peaceful resolution of the crisis, advocating for a solution that respects the concerns of all parties involved. Moreover, regarding Taiwan, he reiterated that there is only one China, describing Taiwan as an integral part of the nation and criticizing US interpretations of the one-China principle.
Lin also denounced US geopolitical strategies, urging Washington to abandon hegemonic logic that treats other nations as mere pawns. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to mutual respect and peaceful coexistence in its relations with the United States while vowing to uphold national sovereignty.
In conclusion, China maintains a strong resolve to foster international climate cooperation while opposing US trade practices it deems unjust. The commitment to support developing nations and engage in dialogue reflects China’s diplomatic stance. Additionally, Lin Jian’s statements regarding Taiwan and the US’s geopolitical maneuvers highlight China’s determination to preserve its sovereignty and promote peaceful collaboration.
