Gachagua Asserts GEMA’s Dominance in Shaping Kenya’s Next Government

Rigathi Gachagua has declared the GEMA communities as essential in shaping Kenya’s future government, asserting their strength and influence. He criticized President Ruto while predicting a significant role for Gen Z voters in the upcoming elections. Gachagua’s outreach to opposition leaders indicates a shifting political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has proclaimed that the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities stand as a pivotal force in shaping Kenya’s forthcoming government, irrespective of opposition leader Raila Odinga’s involvement. During a church service held in Machakos, Gachagua expressed unwavering confidence in GEMA’s unified potential to influence the nation’s political trajectory.

Gachagua stressed that GEMA will be the key to establishing the next government, remarking, “GEMA ndiyo dawa ya Kenya. GEMA itaunda the next government.” He assured his supporters that their numerical strength will be sufficient to secure victory in the 2027 general elections, asserting, “We have looked at the numbers and they are good, with or without him (Raila).”

The former Deputy President did not shy away from criticizing current President William Ruto, asserting that Ruto’s political survival currently relies heavily on Raila Odinga’s influence. Gachagua stated, “Life support machine ya Ruto ni Raila saa hii. Akizima, amekwisha,” indicating that Ruto may face significant challenges in securing re-election in 2027.

Further, Gachagua conveyed the notion that if the GEMA communities validly unite, they could potentially dominate Kenya’s political landscape for the next century. He emphasized, “If we unite as GEMA, we shall be in power for the next 100 years.”

His comments arise amidst increasing speculation regarding his political ambitions and recent attempts to engage with opposition leaders. Gachagua expressed uncertainty about Raila’s intentions, stating, “I do not understand Raila’s intentions; it is his choice whether he wants to be with Ruto and water down his political legacy or join the side of liberating this country.”

Moreover, he posited that Gen Z voters, who significantly impacted the 2022 elections, will not support Ruto in 2027. Gachagua proclaimed, “Kenyans have already decided Ruto must go home and want a new government that serves them,” underscoring a strong disposition towards change within the electorate.

In his efforts to form a robust opposition coalition, Gachagua has engaged with notable political figures, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party. These engagements reflect a significant realignment within Kenya’s political sphere as the 2027 elections approach.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua asserts that the GEMA communities will play a crucial role in forming Kenya’s next government. Emphasizing their strength and unity, he predicts a shift in political power dynamics for the 2027 elections. Gachagua’s engagements with opposition leaders signal a potential restructuring in the political landscape, reflecting the growing desire for change among Kenyan voters.
