Enhanced Community Drainage through Mini Excavators for East Bank Demerara NDCs

The Government of Guyana has delivered six mini excavators worth approximately $96 million to six NDCs along the East Bank of Demerara. Residents along the East Bank of Demerara, particularly in Mocha/Arcadia, will benefit from improved drainage systems following the delivery of six mini excavators, valued at approximately $96 million, to the six Neighborhood Democratic Councils (NDCs). This initiative aims to enhance drainage capacity in these communities and ensure efficient water management.

On Friday, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha presented the mini excavators to the officials from the Eccles/Ramsburg, Mocha/Arcadia, Little Diamond/Herstelling, Soesdyke/T’Huis te/Coverden, and Hauraruni/Yarrowkabra NDCs. He was joined by Minister of Local Government, Sonia Parag, highlighting the collaborative effort between government ministries to support local governance.

Minister Mustapha stated that both President Irfaan Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo acknowledged the critical role of NDCs. They have mandated that each NDC in Guyana be equipped with a mini excavator to assist with the clearance and maintenance of drainage channels, emphasizing the government’s commitment to empowering local councils across the nation.
