Egypt Denounces Formation of Parallel Government in Sudan

Egypt has officially rejected attempts to create a parallel government in Sudan, urging local factions to focus on national unity. The situation escalated after the RSF, a paramilitary group, signed a political charter opposing the authorities. Amid ongoing conflict, which has led to a significant humanitarian crisis and high casualty rates, Egypt calls for an inclusive political process.

On Sunday, Egypt formally expressed its disapproval of any efforts to establish a parallel government in Sudan, emphasizing its commitment to the country’s integrity. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated, “The Arab Republic of Egypt expresses its rejection of any attempts that threaten the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan, including efforts to establish a parallel Sudanese government.” Such actions were described as detrimental, complicating the situation and worsening the humanitarian crisis.

Egypt called upon various Sudanese factions to prioritize national interests and engage in a unified political dialogue devoid of external influences. This comes in the wake of a political charter signed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and other political entities to oppose the current Sudanese authorities. Reports indicate more than 20,000 deaths and 14 million displaced individuals, while other estimates suggest the toll could be as high as 130,000. The humanitarian crisis and ongoing violence continue to pose significant challenges for the region.
