Egypt Denounces Formation of Parallel Sudanese Government as Threat to Unity

Egypt has condemned attempts to establish a parallel Sudanese government, warning that it threatens national unity and worsens the humanitarian crisis. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged all Sudanese factions to prioritize their national interests and engage positively in comprehensive political discussions. CAIRO – 2 March 2025: Egypt has officially rejected the formation of a parallel Sudanese government, warning that such actions threaten the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that these endeavors complicate the current situation and worsen the humanitarian crisis in the region.

The Ministry called on Sudanese political forces to focus on their national interests and to participate actively in a comprehensive political dialogue. This political process, according to Egypt, should be inclusive and free of external interference.

Recently, Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies signed a charter in Nairobi, Kenya, aimed at establishing a parallel government purportedly focused on peace and unity. Meanwhile, the Sudanese Armed Forces have made notable progress in regaining control in key regions of the country amid ongoing conflict.

The war in Sudan has resulted in a substantial humanitarian crisis, leading to the deaths of tens of thousands and displacing approximately 12 million people. Severe hunger and disease have further compounded these conditions.

In response to the Kenyan-hosted meeting discussing the new government formation, Sudan recalled its ambassador in protest. The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the establishment of a parallel government serves to create a deceptive front for militia groups to acquire arms directly.
