Israeli Demolitions in Nur Shams Refugee Camp Escalate Tensions
Israeli bulldozers demolished homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp near Tulkarm, leading to significant displacement within the area. Residents were given little time to evacuate, and the ongoing military operations have intensified, causing fear among the population. The violence marks the 33rd day of aggression in the region, with thousands affected.
On Saturday, Israeli military bulldozers began demolishing homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp near Tulkarm. Utilized for the demolitions were heavy “D10” bulldozers, which targeted residential structures surrounding the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque, amidst reconnaissance performed by low-flying aircraft. This escalation had followed a notification issued by Israeli authorities five days prior, announcing plans to demolish 11 homes allegedly to facilitate road construction from the camp square to the Al-Mansheya neighborhood.
Residents of the homes, belonging to families such as Yusuf, Jibali, Mar’i, and others, were informed just two days before the demolitions that they had a mere three hours to evacuate their belongings from their homes. Concurrently, Israeli forces intensified their raids in the Jabal Al-Nasr neighborhood, forcing residents to abandon their homes under duress while firing live ammunition and sound bombs to instill fear.
This situation has led to massive displacement within the camp, particularly affecting women, children, the elderly, and the sick. Many have fled to shelters and the homes of relatives in nearby Tulkarm city and its suburbs. Reports indicate that since the ongoing aggression began, there have been over 5,500 displaced individuals from neighborhoods including Al-Mansheya, Al-Mas’akh, Jabal Al-Nasr, and Al-Salihyeen.
The current escalation in the Nur Shams and Tulkarm region marks the 33rd consecutive day of the Israeli military’s aggressive actions. Reinforced military presence includes numerous vehicles, bulldozers, and infantry units occupying various residential buildings, which have been converted into military posts, furthering the siege on these areas.
The demolitions in the Nur Shams refugee camp have resulted in significant displacement and heightened tensions as the Israeli authorities implement their aggressive tactics in the region. With thousands displaced and forced to evacuate under duress, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate amidst ongoing military operations. This remains a critical issue that requires urgent attention and response from the international community.
