However, this assistance has diminished as Hezbollah has increased its influence, supported by Iran, amid regional tensions that have also seen Israel engage militarily with Hezbollah and the ouster of Syria’s Bashar al-Assad in December.

Aoun expressed hope for a renewal of relations with Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the mutual benefits such a relationship could yield. He stated his desire for strengthened economic and political ties and acknowledged the challenges Lebanon faces in reconstruction following extensive Israeli strikes. He noted that foreign support from Gulf countries is contingent upon Lebanon implementing long-awaited financial reforms.

The Lebanese president assured that the country remains committed to these necessary reforms while expressing hope that reconstruction aid would arrive incrementally to facilitate the return of displaced persons to their homes in the south.
