Archbishop Muheria Urges Kenyan Government: “Stop Advertising, Start Delivering”
Archbishop Anthony Muheria has urged the Kenyan government to focus on action rather than excessive advertising of projects. He warned against the rhetoric that overshadows implementation, particularly in healthcare, where delays in reimbursements are crippling hospitals. His remarks stress the need for collaboration, expertise, and immediate government reform to address pressing issues.
In light of the socio-economic issues facing Kenya, Archbishop Anthony Muheria has urged the government to prioritize action over publicity. He criticized the government for its emphasis on advertising initiatives rather than executing them, emphasizing that it should act as an implementation body, not an advertising entity.
Archbishop Muheria expressed the need for effective action, stating, “There has to be less rhetoric. We have to stop advertising and act.” He called for the government to bring together people, resources, and expertise to fulfill its potential to deliver results.
The Archbishop encouraged a shift away from negative behaviors, suggesting that the government should halt advertisements and contentious statements. He remarked, “How I wish that we can shelve all these advertisements, noise, insulting, and demeaning statements and start construction… that’s our call.”
He also highlighted challenges in the healthcare sector, specifically regarding the delayed reimbursements from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF). The Archbishop pointed out that hospitals are expected to provide care while grappling with unpaid debts totaling over 250 million Kenya shillings.
Despite efforts to improve healthcare delivery, he noted the ongoing struggle with government payments, stating, “The hospitals are not receiving this reimbursement in time.” He underscored the financial strain these debts place on institutions, urging the government to address the situation urgently for effective operations.
Archbishop Anthony Muheria has called upon the Kenyan government to transition from excessive advertising of initiatives to tangible actions that improve conditions, particularly in the healthcare sector. Emphasizing the need for collaboration and timely reimbursements, he advocates for meaningful reform to uplift institutional capabilities. The pressing financial challenges faced by hospitals underscore the urgency of his call for constructive governmental action.
