Tragic Drowning of Two Teenage Girls in Lusaka
Two teenage girls, Beauty Phiri (14) and Anita Mwale (15), tragically drowned in Chibotela, Lusaka while returning from early prayers. The incident took place on February 26, 2025, as they were impacted by strong water currents due to rain. The Zambia Police have acknowledged the incident and are investigating further.
Tragically, two teenage girls drowned in the Chibotela area, situated between Lusaka’s Kalingalinga and the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Headquarters. This unfortunate incident occurred early on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at approximately 04:00 hours. According to Rae Hamoonga, the Police Public Relations Officer, the girls were swept away by rapid water currents as they were returning home from morning prayers early that day.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers posed by strong water currents, particularly during periods of heavy rain.
