Qatari and Libyan Premiers Discuss Bilateral Cooperation and Regional Issues

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional issues, including the situations in Gaza and Syria. Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s support for Libya’s unity and political process amid ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis through elections, following years of conflict since Gaddafi’s ousting.

On Tuesday, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani engaged in discussions with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh in Doha. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional issues, notably the situations in Gaza and Syria, as reported by the Foreign Ministry and cited by News.Az from Anadolu.

During the talks, Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar’s unwavering commitment to Libya’s sovereignty, unity, and the realization of its citizens’ aspirations for stability and development. He expressed Qatar’s comprehensive support for the Libyan political process, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and all peaceful resolutions that honor Libya’s independence and integrity.

Efforts led by the United Nations and local authorities aim to facilitate elections in Libya to resolve the ongoing conflict between two rival governments. One government, recognized by the UN and led by Dbeibeh, operates from Tripoli, while the other was appointed by the House of Representatives in early 2022 and is based in Benghazi under the leadership of Osama Hamad.

The Libyan populace expresses hope that the anticipated elections will put an end to the political instability and armed conflicts, concluding the transitional periods that have persisted since the toppling of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime, which ruled from 1969 until 2011.

The discussions between the Qatari and Libyan premiers underscore Qatar’s commitment to supporting Libya’s sovereignty, unity, and political process. Efforts are ongoing to hold elections aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between rival governments in Libya.
