President Disanayake Engages with Japanese Ambassador on Cooperation

This morning, President Anura Kumara Disanayake met with the Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, H. E. Mr. Akio Isomata, at the Presidential Secretariat. During this meeting, the Ambassador extended an official invitation for President Disanayake to visit Japan and expressed gratitude for the current government’s policy framework.

Ambassador Isomata highlighted Japan’s efforts to include Sri Lanka in a newly launched security cooperation assistance program by the Japanese government. The two officials engaged in comprehensive discussions regarding ongoing and upcoming initiatives involving a joint program with Japan, Switzerland, and South Africa, which aims to promote national reconciliation for communities in the northern regions affected by the prolonged conflict.

They also reviewed the status of Japanese investments in Sri Lanka, including those in the digital economy and airport developments. The Ambassador reiterated Japan’s dedication to supporting Sri Lanka’s Digital Transformation Program and its intent to invest in port and aviation projects, along with digitalization efforts aimed at enhancing Sri Lanka’s economic landscape.

Attendees at the meeting included Dr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, the President’s Advisor on Economic and Financial Affairs; Roshan Gamage, Senior Additional Secretary to the President; OHASHI Kenji, First Secretary and Head of the Economics and Development Cooperation Section; and MURATA Shinichi, First Secretary and Head of the Political Section.

The Presidential Media Division will disseminate information regarding the President’s views, actions, decisions, and statements via various media channels, ensuring an engaging and credible approach. This department serves as a key source of information on the President’s vision, coordinating with both public and private media organizations to explain national policies and plans effectively to the public.
