Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Anticipates Upcoming Talks with European Troika
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, stated that Iran anticipates meetings with the European troika (France, Germany, and Britain) soon. He stressed that all discussions will prioritize the Islamic Republic’s national interests and that there will be no negotiations under duress, particularly with the U.S. The talks will focus on sanctions and nuclear issues, with ongoing dialogues expected in the next few weeks.
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, announced that meetings between Tehran and the European troika—comprising France, Germany, and Britain—are expected in the upcoming weeks. He emphasized that Iran will engage in discussions based solely on its national interests and security, and that talks will likely commence within three weeks following prior discussions held in Geneva and New York.
In his conversation with Tasnim news agency, Gharibabadi highlighted the significance of the current dialogue, which encompasses sanctions relief and nuclear issues pivotal to both sides. Following Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s stance on negotiations with the United States, he reaffirmed that Iran maintains a strong refusal to engage under conditions of sanctions and pressure.
On February 7, the Leader notably rejected negotiations with the U.S., reinforcing the sentiment that such talks do not address Iran’s challenges. Gharibabadi clarified, however, that dialogues with other nations, particularly European countries, remain open and vital.
Kazem Gharibabadi’s statements reflect Iran’s commitment to pursuing its national interests while engaging with the European troika. He reiterated the importance of negotiating from a position of strength and clarified that Iran’s diplomatic engagements are not merely reactive but are guided by its core principles. The upcoming meetings aim to address crucial issues, including sanctions and nuclear discussions.
