His Majesty King Abdullah II met with Syrian President Ahmed Al Sharaa at Basman Palace on Wednesday, emphasizing Jordan’s continued support for the rebuilding efforts in Syria. The King stressed that the reconstruction should encompass all segments of Syrian society to ensure the country’s unity, security, and stability.
During the meeting, which was also attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, discussions highlighted the longstanding ties between Jordan and Syria, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, energy, and water. The leaders also addressed mutual concerns, particularly in strengthening Arab unity.
The King praised the progress of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, viewing it as a pivotal step forward for the Syrian populace. He underscored the necessity of close collaboration to tackle challenges related to border security, particularly in curbing arms and drug trafficking.
His Majesty reiterated the importance of Syria reclaiming its prominent role in the region’s affairs. Furthermore, he called for the establishment of conditions that would facilitate the safe and voluntary return of Syrian refugees.
