President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea met with China’s Special Envoy, Ambassador Xue Bing, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations, regional stability, and development initiatives stemming from the China-Africa Summit. The Ambassador reaffirmed China’s dedication to partnering with Eritrea and other Horn of Africa nations in achieving developmental goals and enhancing security.
President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea engaged in discussions with Ambassador Xue Bing, who serves as China’s Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa, earlier today at Adi Halo. The dialogue primarily revolved around enhancing bilateral relations, addressing significant regional issues pertinent to Eritrea and its neighboring nations, along with interconnected global developments. The implementation of developmental frameworks established during the China-Africa Summit was also a focal point of their talks.
Ambassador Xue underscored China’s unwavering commitment to fostering peace and stability within the Horn of Africa while also supporting Eritrea’s development initiatives. He noted that these efforts align with the priorities set by the Eritrean government. In his communication with the Eritrean Press, Ambassador Xue stated that the views and positions of China and Eritrea are thoroughly aligned on the regional and international matters explored in their meeting.
Furthermore, he reiterated China’s willingness to collaborate with countries in the Horn of Africa in both developmental and security facets. Notably, the meeting was attended by Mr. Osman Saleh, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Li Xiang, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Eritrea. It is remarkable that Ambassador Xue previously visited Eritrea in April of this year.
The engagement between Eritrea and China highlights the significant diplomatic relations and cooperative endeavors that exist between the two nations. Particularly in the context of the Horn of Africa, these discussions are crucial, considering the region’s complex geopolitical landscape, characterized by various developmental challenges and security concerns. The China-Africa Summit serves as a foundational platform from which agreements and developmental initiatives are structured, enhancing collaboration between China and African nations like Eritrea.
In summary, the meeting between President Isaias Afwerki and Ambassador Xue Bing signifies a strong commitment to advancing Eritrea-China relations. The focus on collaborative development and regional stability underscores the alignment of interests between the two nations. This dialogue not only reinforces existing partnerships but also sets a positive tone for future cooperation, particularly in developmental and security matters within the Horn of Africa.
