Lebanon Secures 7.3 Million USD Agreement with France for Green Agriculture
Lebanon has secured a 7.3-million-USD deal with France to promote green agriculture. The agreement, signed in Cairo, aims to assist 2,500 farmers and improve sustainability in agriculture. The project will be conducted over four years, overseen by the Lebanese Agriculture Ministry.
On December 19, Lebanon formalized a substantial agreement with France, securing 7.3 million USD to enhance its green agriculture initiatives. The accord was orchestrated between the French Development Agency and CIHEAM Montpellier, with the Lebanese Agriculture Minister Abbas Hajj Hassan present at its signing in Cairo, Egypt, amidst a seminar dedicated to promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices. This initiative is expected to assist approximately 2,500 Lebanese farmers in transitioning to sustainable farming methods while bolstering over 150 cooperatives and private traders to improve their agricultural products.
The project also aims to raise awareness regarding the significance of environmentally sustainable agriculture and will advocate for public policies that facilitate this transition. CIHEAM Montpellier is one of the four institutes of CIHEAM, the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, an intergovernmental organization based in France consisting of 13 member states, including Lebanon and France. The Lebanese Agriculture Ministry will oversee the implementation of this project over the next four years, reflecting France’s ongoing commitment to supporting Lebanon’s agricultural sector and its political stability.
Lebanon’s recent agreement with France represents a significant step towards fostering sustainable agricultural practices within the country. Agriculture holds a pivotal role in Lebanon’s economy, and transitioning to more green methods is essential for enhancing productivity and ensuring environmental sustainability. The collaboration with France not only provides financial assistance but also highlights Lebanon’s strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening its agricultural institutions and practices. The involvement of CIHEAM Montpellier underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing agricultural challenges in the Mediterranean region.
In conclusion, Lebanon’s 7.3 million USD agreement with France signifies a meaningful investment in the country’s agricultural future. By focusing on green agriculture, the project seeks to benefit thousands of farmers and enhance product quality while promoting sustainable practices. The collaboration reflects France’s ongoing support for Lebanon’s development and stability, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing agricultural challenges.
