- Housing and transport see moderated inflation rates this June.
Lima’s Inflation Rate Holds Steady Despite Economic Fluctuations
The inflation landscape in Peru’s capital city, Lima, has reached a notable milestone as the annual rate for June 2025 remained static at 1.69%. This marks a four-month high, mirroring last month’s figures. Importantly, this inflation rate still falls within the cautious target set by the Central Bank of Peru, which aims for a range of 1% to 3%.
Key Sectors Show Increased Inflation Rates
Diving deeper into the inflation data, it’s apparent that certain sectors experienced an uptick in prices. Notably, food and non-alcoholic beverages saw inflation rise to 1.49% in June from 1.35% in May. Additionally, the recreation and culture segments ticked up from 2.92% to 2.96%, and restaurants and hotels also experienced a slight increase from 2.79% to 2.84%. These numbers suggest a shift in consumer spending behavior and price strategies among local businesses, amidst a backdrop of overall economic caution.
Monthly Consumer Prices Experience Recovery
On the flip side, some categories are reflecting a decrease in inflation rates. Housing and utilities prices dipped to 0.45% from 0.68% in May, while transport costs also saw a drop from 0.95% last month to just 0.13% this month. Education inflation slightly decreased from 4.12% to 4.07%, and miscellaneous goods and services fell marginally from 2.66% to 2.61%. On a broader scale, consumer prices in June noted a monthly rise of 1.30%, a recovery after a minor decline of 0.06% recorded in May, suggesting that consumer purchasing is gaining momentum despite the uneven inflationary pressures across sectors.
In summary, while the annual inflation rate in Lima holds steady at a four-month high of 1.69%, the variations across different sectors indicate a mixed economic environment. Key areas like food and recreation are experiencing rising costs, yet essential services like housing and transportation show signs of moderation. Overall monthly prices show signs of recovery, hinting at a complex but somewhat positive economic trajectory for Peru.
