Authorities believe Kuria played a central role as the triggerman in a planned attack on the late MP. Investigators claim he tracked Were through the central business district of Nairobi and ambushed him in traffic. Following the shooting, Kuria fled to Mihang’o, where he discarded the firearm used in the murder. The pistol was later recovered by law enforcement.

Kuria continued his flight through Narok on a motorcycle before taking public transport to Isebania. Detectives believe he coordinated his escape with a relative in Tanzania through intercepted communications. Senior officials in the investigation consider Kuria’s capture a significant milestone.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a total of 11 individuals connected to the assassination thus far. This includes Alan Omondi, the personal bodyguard of the deceased MP, and the driver, Walter Owino, along with William Imoli, identified as a key organizer of the plot.

Other prominent figures being investigated include Phillip Aroko, a businessman and politician, and Ebel Ochieng, who oversees the Lake Basin Development Authority. They are suspected of providing financial backing for the assassination. Additionally, Edwin Oduor and Dennis Manyasi remain in custody.

Investigators are delving into bank transactions and communications among those arrested to understand the motives behind Were’s murder. Following the tragedy, Charles Were was laid to rest at his rural home in Kachien village, Kasipul Constituency, on May 9.
