Iran’s Foreign Minister to Visit Pakistan and India Amid Regional Tensions

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will visit Pakistan and India for consultations aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional tensions, following a recent terrorist attack in Kashmir. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to embark on a diplomatic mission to Pakistan and India this week, aiming to reinforce Tehran’s ties with these regional neighbors. This announcement came from the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, on Saturday.

Araghchi will first arrive in Pakistan on Monday, where he is expected to engage in talks with senior officials. The primary aim of these talks is to enhance bilateral relations while also addressing pressing developments both regionally and on the global stage. Following his visit to Pakistan, Araghchi plans to travel to India to continue the consultations.

Interestingly, this diplomatic effort comes at a time of increased tensions between India and Pakistan, largely arising from a terrorist attack in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22, which resulted in 26 deaths. Following the attack, India has pointed fingers at Pakistan; however, Pakistan vehemently denies these accusations.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian found it necessary to address the situation, condemning the attack in a phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 26. He highlighted the importance of a collective stance against terrorism in this evolving conflict. Pezeshkian also contacted Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, on the same day to express his serious concerns regarding escalating tensions in the wake of the attack.

As part of these diplomatic endeavors, the Iranian foreign minister also held discussions with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar. During this conversation, he made it clear that Tehran is willing to play a role in diffusing the tensions between India and Pakistan.
