Global Youth Climate Leaders to Gather in Brazil for Historic Summit Ahead of COP30

The Global Youth Climate Summit 2025 will be held in Brazil from April 2-5, attracting 200 young leaders and 300 virtual participants from 39 countries. Organized by GYLC and UFMG, the summit aims to amplify youth voices in climate discussions ahead of COP30. It will feature key government and corporate representatives and aims to produce actionable outcomes such as the Belo Horizonte Youth Climate Declaration and grants for youth-led projects.

In an effort to address the escalating climate crisis, the Global Youth Climate Summit 2025 will convene from April 2 to April 5 at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil. This significant gathering will feature 200 young climate leaders from 39 nations in person and an additional 300 joining virtually, marking a pivotal moment in Brazil’s youth climate advocacy.

Organized by the Global Youth Leadership Center (GYLC) in collaboration with UFMG, the summit aims to elevate the voices of those most impacted by climate change, especially from the Global South. Ejaj Ahmad, CEO of GYLC, noted that young people from climate-vulnerable regions provide critical insights and solutions necessary to combat the climate emergency ahead of the COP30 negotiations.

During the four-day event, notable speaker representatives will include government officials, academic leaders, corporate executives, and youth activists. Among them are Professor Mateus Simões de Almeida, Vice Governor of Minas Gerais; Dr. Euzebio Jorge Silveira de Sousa from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; and Reynaldo Passanezi Filho, CEO of CEMIG, who together contribute to the summit’s high-level discussions.

Youth activists will play a central role, featuring voices like Rayane Xipaya, who will advocate for forest protection and Indigenous rights. Participants from Japan, Kenya, South Africa, Bangladesh, Peru, and Ghana will also present their unique insights and solutions to climate challenges.

The summit is expected to yield significant outputs, including the Belo Horizonte Youth Climate Declaration, aimed at influencing the COP30 agenda in Belém. Additionally, ten exceptional youth leaders will be awarded grants to pursue community-oriented climate initiatives.

Financial and academic backing from partners such as UFMG, CEMIG, and FIEMG enhances the summit’s potential impact. GYLC, with 16 years of experience fostering youth leadership initiatives, underlines its commitment to practical climate action and knowledge dissemination.
