Dujarric emphasized the responsibility of all conflicting parties under international humanitarian law to safeguard civilians and civil infrastructure while minimizing harm to non-combatants. He highlighted that ongoing hostilities, coupled with recent financial support cuts from major donors, have severely hindered health services across Sudan, especially in the Darfur region.

He noted that nearly half of all documented attacks on healthcare facilities in Sudan were reported in Darfur last month. Health partners have indicated that most regional healthcare facilities now possess only one to two months worth of supplies, with acute shortages particularly affecting North and South Darfur.

Despite these funding deficits and access restrictions, partly due to continuing violence, the UN and its partners are striving to address the escalating humanitarian needs within the affected areas.
