President Marcos Welcomes New Ambassadors, Aims for Stronger Diplomatic Ties

The welcoming ceremonies took place at Malacañang, where President Marcos received Ambassadors Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito of Colombia, Sin Saream of Cambodia, and Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv of Ukraine.

During the meeting with Colombian Ambassador Garavito, President Marcos expressed optimism regarding future collaborations, stating, “I believe there’s more that we can do, that we can explore many other sectors, and strengthen and deepen the relations between our two countries,” according to a press release from the Presidential Communications Office.

The Philippines established diplomatic relations with Colombia on July 5, 1946, and there are approximately 100 Filipinos currently residing there. Meanwhile, Cambodian Ambassador Sin committed to enhancing collaboration for mutual benefits.

In his conversation with the Cambodian Ambassador, President Marcos remarked, “I welcome you to the Philippines and I look forward to even stronger relationships between our two countries and to strengthen what is already a very strong union between our two countries.” The Philippines and Cambodia have had diplomatic relations since August 20, 1957, with about 7,500 Filipinos living in Cambodia as of June 2024.

Ukrainian Ambassador Fediv conveyed her eagerness to foster bilateral relations and focus on collective efforts for peace. President Marcos acknowledged her sentiments, saying, “We hope to continue – we will always support you in your efforts for peace. And we are very happy to welcome you here and to be able to have conversations with you as to what else we in the Philippines, though far away, might be able to do to help our quest for peace.”

Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Ukraine started on April 7, 1992, with about 24 Filipinos residing in Ukraine at present.
