PBBM Optimistic About Strengthening Diplomatic Relations with Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is optimistic about enhancing relationships with Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine through their new ambassadors. He emphasized exploring collaboration in various sectors and reaffirmed support for Ukraine amidst its current crises. Each nation has established formal diplomatic ties with the Philippines, reinforcing the potential for mutual benefits and shared aspirations.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has expressed a strong desire to enhance diplomatic relationships between the Philippines and the newly appointed ambassadors from Colombia, Cambodia, and Ukraine. The President received their credentials in separate ceremonies held at Malacañan Palace, emphasizing the potential for collaboration in various sectors to deepen bilateral relations with each of these nations.

During his meeting with Colombian Ambassador Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito, Marcos noted the importance of exploring additional avenues for partnership. Ambassador Rojas Garavito highlighted a common vision for lasting peace and development between the two nations, which have maintained formal diplomatic ties since July 5, 1946. Colombia currently hosts approximately 100 Filipino nationals.

In his dialogue with Cambodian Ambassador Sin Saream, President Marcos acknowledged the strong foundation existing between the Philippines and Cambodia. He articulated his desire for an even more robust relationship, while Ambassador Sin reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing cooperation for the mutual prosperity of both nations. The Philippines and Cambodia have been diplomatic partners since August 20, 1957, with around 7,500 Filipinos living in Cambodia as of June 2024.

Regarding Ukraine, Ambassador Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv expressed her intent to foster bilateral ties focused on promoting peace, prosperity, and mutual respect. President Marcos reiterated the Philippines’ steadfast support for Ukraine in its quest for peace, reflecting ongoing diplomatic engagement since their relationship began on April 7, 1992. Currently, around 24 Filipinos reside in Ukraine.
