Prime Minister Dlamini Attends Inauguration of Namibia’s First Female President

The Prime Minister of Eswatini, Russell Mmiso Dlamini, has traveled to Namibia for the inauguration of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the country’s first female President-elect. The ceremony coincides with Namibia’s 35th Independence Day. Nandi-Ndaitwah, previously the Vice President, won the election with 57.31 percent of the votes, succeeding interim President Nangolo Mbumba.

Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has departed from the country to partake in the inauguration ceremony of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Namibia’s first female President-elect. The Prime Minister left through the King Mswati III International Airport, accompanied by Public Service Minister Mabulala Maseko, representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Pholile Shakantu.

Prior to their journey, the Prime Minister stated that Their Majesties delegated them to represent them at the inauguration. The ceremony is scheduled for today, and the delegation intends to return following the festivities. “We hope that God will be with us in this journey,” he expressed.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, aged 72, will officially assume office today, coinciding with Namibia’s 35th Independence Day, which celebrates the nation’s liberation from South African rule on March 21, 1990. Notably, she won the elections last November with 57.31 percent of the votes, successfully defeating 14 challengers and eliminating the need for a runoff.

Nandi-Ndaitwah, who previously served as Namibia’s Vice President and was associated with the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), extends the party’s governance since independence. She will succeed Nangolo Mbumba, who held the position of interim president for the past year, succeeding the late third president, Hage Geingob, who passed away in February of the previous year.
